Two humanoids join a live packing line in a Korean warehouse

A white and black dual-arm humanoid robot on a wheeled column stands at a roller conveyor in a warehouse, one gripper holding a crumpled sheet of brown packing paper above an open cardboard box, with rows of shelving and stacked crates behind it.

CJ Logistics announced on 3 September 2026 that it had placed two dual-arm humanoid robots into the packaging process at the Olive Young distribution centre in Yangji, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Their job is narrow: putting cushioning material inside boxes as they move along the packing line. The company calls it the logistics industry’s first commercial deployment of AI humanoids in a live operating process, following field testing at its Gunpo fulfilment centre in 2025.

The robots run on what CJ calls a robot foundation model, which it describes as the core physical-AI technology that combines vision and sensor input with simulated data so a robot can recognise its surroundings and decide how to act. The hardware comes from Robotis, the robot hands from Aidin Robotics, and the foundation model from RealWorld AI. Kim Jeong-hee, who heads CJ’s TES Logistics Technology Research Institute, said the company means to combine the logistics data it accumulates on site with AI so that humanoids judge and carry out varied tasks themselves.

CJ says it plans to widen the work to picking, sorting, inspection and packaging, with the eventual aim of a single robot running several processes in sequence. No throughput figures, unit costs or timeline were given. Two robots folding paper into boxes is a small capability; what the deployment tests is whether a general model, rather than a fixed program, is what makes the next task cheap to add.
