GMO AI & Robotics Corporation, part of the GMO Internet Group, said on 8 September 2026 that it will begin operating a maintenance vehicle built specifically for humanoid robots. It calls the vehicle the GMO Humanoid Ambulance and describes it as the first of its kind in Japan, entering service in September 2026.

The van carries diagnostic equipment, major replacement parts and repair tools, along with a spare robot. Where a robot cannot be repaired where it stands, GMO says the crew swaps in the replacement unit from the vehicle and carries the failed machine back to a repair base. The exterior, styled after an ambulance, was designed by the Kyoto-based designer Yasuichi Morita.

GMO’s announcement does not state how many vehicles will operate, which areas they will cover, what response time is being targeted, or what the service costs.

The service is aimed at a problem that only exists once humanoids are deployed rather than demonstrated: a robot that stops working in a shop or a warehouse is a service call, and until now Japan had no vehicle equipped to answer one.
