Renesas Electronics announced the opening of a Physical AI and Robotics Lab in Beijing on 27 August 2026. The facility brings hardware, software, AI modelling, control, power supply, sensing and system-level verification into one place, and is offered to customers, ecosystem partners, universities and startups for demonstrating, validating and jointly developing robotic systems from proof of concept to deployment.

The number attached to the announcement is the useful part. Renesas says its silicon currently addresses roughly 30% of a humanoid robot’s bill of materials and that it is working toward 70%. That is a statement about where value in humanoid robots is expected to sit, and a component supplier positioning to hold more of it. Microcontrollers, motor control, power management and sensing are unglamorous next to the models that get announced, but a humanoid is mostly those parts.

The lab follows the creation of a dedicated Physical AI Division at Renesas on 1 July 2026. Yvonne Liu, vice-president and president of Renesas China, and Ivo Marocco, vice-president and head of user experience, are named in the release.

Nothing was shipped or cleared here. A lab opening is an investment signal, and it places that investment in Beijing, where much of the humanoid supply chain now sits.
